Growing Opportunities in Family Child Care (GOFCC)

Are you interested in caring for and educating Maryland’s children? Have you ever wanted to be your own boss and business owner? Then consider a career in early care and education as a family child care provider. 

Growing Opportunities for Family Child Care (GOFCC) is a unique program which provides targeted training, coaching, and resources to support interested individuals in opening a family child care business. GOFCC guides you through the licensing process while supporting you in building a strong business foundation and high quality child care program.  Participation is free and includes all of the required training, access to knowledgeable coaches, and a variety of resources which will support you in opening and operating your child care business.

Project ACT is seeking applicants to participate in the next GOFCC cohort, which will start in December 2026 and will include:

  • Communities of Practice (COP): 5 sessions, 1-hour each to provide you with peer and expert support. Sessions will include information on submitting your child care application, creating a parent handbook and contract, and COMAR.
  • Training: Participants will receive all of the trainings required by MSDE to become a licensed Family Child Care provider.
  • Coaching: One-on-one coaching with Project ACT staff to answer questions and help participants stay on track with goals.
  • Mentorship: Get paired with a current Family Child Care provider to answer your questions and help with launching your business.

  • The application will be open from October 5th - October 30th, 2026.
  • Applicants will be notified of acceptance into the cohort by November 10th.
  • The GOFCC program will begin December 1st.
